CommuniCare Kicks Off Our Shoe Drive

We’re “kicking off” summer with a fun and easy fundraiser – beginning this Friday, May 24 – to support our volunteer and student efforts. We’d like to invite everyone to participate.  The funds we generate will go toward supporting CommuniCare’s goal of becoming a Service Enterprise, or, a model volunteer organization.

WHAT’S GOING ON?      Bring in your gently worn, used, and new shoes for CommuniCare’s first ever 👞 SHOE DRIVE 👟!

WHAT WE NEED:            Gently worn shoes (or new!) – all sizes/all types – as many pairs as you or your family members are willing to donate

WHAT TO DO:                   Between May 24 – July 24, please drop shoe pairs, each pair rubber-banded together (rubber bands provided), into one of the collection bins located in the waiting rooms at our three main health centers: Davis Community Clinic, 2051 John Jones Road in Davis; Hansen Family Health Center, 215 West Beamer St. in Woodland; and Salud Clinic, 500B Jefferson Blvd. in West Sacramento.

 THEN…TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES, AND NEIGHBORS – ENCOURAGE THEM TO DONATE THEIR GENTLY WORN SHOES TO YOU OR AT THE CLINICS OR OTHER EXTERNAL COMMUNITY LOCATIONS INCLUDING:

  • Woodland Public Library;
  • CVS at the Marketplace in Davis;
  • Starbucks at 1649 Research Blvd (at Cowell Blvd.) – Davis; and
  • Starbucks on W. Main St in Woodland
  • other drop off locations coming soon

This shoe/fund drive is a wonderful way to support the ongoing contributions of CommuniCare’s incredible volunteers and students. Thank you in advance for your shoe donations!

“We are excited about our first-ever shoe drive,” said Hollis Sweet, AmeriCorps Volunteer Infrastructure Fellow at CommuniCare Health Centers. “I’m sure most people have extra shoes taking up space in their closets. By donating them, they can clear out the space taken up by the unused shoes and we raise money to support volunteers and students whose hard-work makes it possible for our staff and providers to reach more of our community members who might not otherwise have access to high-quality services. Then, if it couldn’t get any better, through Funds2Orgs we also have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone!”

All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.
