Yolo County Seeks Input on Potential Uses of Juvenile Detention Facility

(Woodland, CA) – On July 27, 2021 and August 11, 2021, the Yolo County Probation Department will hold virtual community listening sessions to elicit input on potential future uses for the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Similar to other counties in California, Yolo County has seen a significant decline in the number of youth housed at the Juvenile Detention Facility.  As such, Yolo County’s Juvenile Detention Facility is underutilized.  Again, similar to other California counties, Yolo County is grappling with how best to use its facility and other related resources to best serve youth.

During these two community listening sessions the Probation Department will provide information on current uses of the Juvenile Detention Facility and options for potential future uses that have been explored to date.  Participants will then be invited to provide feedback on these options and offer input on additional opportunities that may not yet have been considered that might address current needs and gaps in services.

“I encourage all that are interested in juvenile justice to be a part of this important community conversation,” said Yolo County Chief Probation Officer Dan Fruchtenicht. “We need the community’s input on potential future use of the Juvenile Detention Facility to ensure we utilize our limited resources to serve youth wisely.”

The community listening sessions will each be held at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom in both English and Spanish.  To register for the July 27 session, visit: www.bit.ly/YoloJDFjuly27. To register for the August 11 session, visit: www.bit.ly/YoloJDFaug11.
